Phil has been an advocate for the therapeutic effects of art and creativity on mental health since 2005. As a veteran struggling with PTSD, he knows firsthand what creativity can do to help alleviate his struggles with mental health. His advocacy and artwork have been featured in multiple media outlets in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex between the years 2005-2012. Phil began showing and selling his work in 1997 in Fort Worth, Texas. He showed extensively between the years of 1997 and 2012 through both solo and group shows in multiple venues. In 2007 Phil had the honor of being selected as a finalist for the prestigious Hunting Art Prize for his painting “Freedom Speaks”. In 2012 Phil moved to New Jersey where he developed an exhibit titled “Unfinished Business” for continued advocacy. “Unfinished Business” highlights some of Phil’s story of struggles, and was displayed in several public libraries in southern NJ. In early 2020, Phil relocated to NM. If you know of any organizations that may be interested in hosting a public art exhibit concerning mental health, please contact Phil.

Artist’s Statement: I create EASE art. EASE stands for Experimental Abstract Surreal Expressionism. I create from my subconscious. This often creates work with symbolism and allegory. I’m no longer bound to a particular style or technique and I use little planning most times. This widely varying style helps soothe me mentally while also countering my past perfectionism issue. It also creates truly original work.
