Patty Gallegos is a native New Mexican currently living in Los Lunas, NM. Patty is an oil and pastel painter and a potter. She retired from the City of Albuquerque and as a military reservist. Patty has a BS from NM State University, and an MA from Webster University. She is married to David, who is also retired law enforcement.
Patty started taking painting lessons upon her retirement in 1997, and has since taken a number of workshops, art classes at Eastern NM University in Ruidoso, drawing and painting classes. Her subjects, so far, have been dog portraits, horses, old buildings, including rural Catholic churches, some abstracts, flowers and both two and four legged athletes. Patty likes to work in series and or on projects. Recently she completed a group of paintings to illustrate a children’s book written by John Taylor. She also welcomes commission work.
Patty has participated in a number of juried shows including The Pastel Society of NM, the NM State Fair Fine Arts, the Art Show at the Dog Show, and The Rio Grande Arts Association.
Future projects Patty has in mind are a new series of Catholic churches, old trucks and more abstracts.
Patty’s clay art is mostly functional bowls, cups, platters, and pitchers to name a few. She started learning about wheel-thrown pottery in the 70’s while on active duty stationed in Maryland. Life interfered, and she was not able to do pottery for another 17 years. Then she met Jan Pacifico, started taking classes, and her husband, David, bought her a wheel as a surprise birthday present. She’s been making pottery ever since.
Patty completely enjoys both mediums and fully expects to continue making art for the rest of her days. Creating art is more of a need than a hobby. When Patty is in her Clay House or painting studio making art, she is in the “zone” so to speak.
Patty Welcomes commissions!
